Falken Tyres Deep Dive

Black and white image of Japanese business men announcing the start of the Falken tyre brand. The new Falken logo is visible with Japanese writing. Falken Tires began in 1983 as part of the OHTSU Rubber & Tire company in Japan. Falken was focused on performance and groundbreaking compound improvements.

The History of Falken Tires

The Falken tyre brand began in 1983 when the OHTSU Rubber & Tire company decided it needed a new high-performance brand to take on the larger tyre brands on the market. Falken followed a conservative marketing approach, introducing product slowly, winning races in its homeland which demonstrated the company’s technological capabilities early on, and then, when ready, expanding into new markets, launching tyres that fit the personality of targeted drivers – those who relished the association with a winning brand.

The winning Falken feeling was heard around the world when they started the Falken Motorsport and Distribution centers in the US and Europe between 1985 and 1988. Through this time the brand would begin to turn heads in the motorsport world including rally championships and the famous Paris Dakar.

In 1991 the Falken Tire Corporation was formed, with its headquarters in Rancho Cucamonga, CA North America. The Brand was now a standalone powerhouse when it came to UHP (Ultra-High-Performance) tyres, becoming popular among track and street racers.

When Falken began designing tyres for the end user, they had one thing in mind, competitive results but that would change. Starting with the Sincera tyre back in 1988, it was a big jump in road comfort and reliability from Falken and would pave the way for the more popular Ziex range of passenger tyres.
